Law enforcement agencies across the world will be utilizing twitter for the purposes of tracking various potential and suspected criminals. They would be monitoring of twitter post by suspected criminals and would use the said posts and legal proceedings as time passes by. Already precedent in this regard has been created.

Police Using Twitter

Milwaukee's police department is one of a growing number of police and fire agencies turning to social networking Web sites such as Twitter.

Some departments use it to alert people to traffic disruptions or offer crime prevention tips. Others encourage leads on more pressing matters like wildfires.

Has Twitter become the police scanner of the 21st Century? Police in Milwaukee use the social networking site to send tweets out to mass audiences regarding everything from traffic tie-ups to details of an unfolding murder investigation. Milwaukee police have about 900 followers who have signed up to automatically receive every tweet from the department-and non-followers can see updates to the department's Twitter page too. "We are trying to reach people in the places they are already going for information," says Anne Schwartz, one of the department's two Twitterers.
